Pupil Premium Plus for Children Previously in Care (CPiC)
Pupil Premium Plus is available for all children who were previously in the care of the local authority. It is intended to be spent on helping children ‘emotionally, socially and educationally by providing specific support to raise their attainment and address their wider needs.' (Department of Education).
Early Years Pupil Premium Plus is set at £300 per year. In Central Bedfordshire, the setting will receive this automatically from the term after the child turns 3 years old.
Pupil Premium Plus for school-aged children (4-16 years) is set at £2,570 per year. Schools must apply for this through the October school census. Parents/guardians need to provide schools/settings with evidence that the child was previously looked after. This can be a copy of the child’s adoption certificate, special guardianship order, or care arrangement order.
Pupil Premium Plus funding for children previously in care (CPiC) is not ringfenced for individual children, but the Designated Teacher must be able to demonstrate that its use is benefiting the CPiC that attend their school/setting. Given parents/guardians will know their children's needs well, it is best practice for schools/settings to involve them in decisions about Pupil Premium Plus spending and discuss the evolving needs of the child at a termly review (see Education Reviews and the One Page Profile).
Schools will be challenged by OFSTED on the use of Pupil Premium Plus funding. They must publish a Pupil Premium Plus Strategy each year, setting out how this money is spent.
