What needs Children Previously in Care (CPiC) present within schools
Many children who have previously been in care can face additional challenges in schools due to their earlier experiences of trauma and loss (See Understanding Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)). Children previously in care (CPiC) will often need a higher level of support in schools/settings than peers. It is important that Designated Teacher’s work closely with colleagues (such as the school Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and Attendance Lead) to ensure any barriers to learning this cohort face are viewed through a trauma-informed lens.
PAC-UK has produced this useful overview for schools and settings of CPiC needs.
