Mutual exchange and rightsizing

Mutual exchange – swapping your council home

A mutual exchange could help you find a more suitable home.

A mutual exchange takes place when 2 or more of our tenants swap their homes. This may be with another tenant or a tenant of a registered social provider. You can either home swap with one tenant or you could try and find a multi-way swap.

If you have a secure, assured or a fixed-term tenancy, you will have a right to exchange. However, if you have a starter or introductory tenancy, there is no right to exchange.

All tenants involved in a swap must have permission from their landlord before they swap homes.

You will also need a clear rent account when you are ready to swap your home.
