Getting out and about

Getting out, taking part in leisure activities, and socialising with friends can make all the difference to your health and well-being.

We have 12 libraries, with a lot more to offer than just books. They also host a variety of clubs and activities for adults such as knitting and craft groups, board game clubs, colouring clubs, and coffee mornings, most of which are free to join. You can also research your family tree using Ancestry for free at your local library.

Visit your local library or check our Virtual Library to find out what’s planned in your area.

Music is also a great way to relax. You can download your favourite tracks or browse for something new on our free digital music resource app, Freegal.

We work with many different partners to provide opportunities for workshops, courses, walks, and activities. Some of these can be explored below to find walks, places, and activities near you.

What better way to enjoy Central Bedfordshire than by walking in it?

Wellbeing Walks

Wellbeing walks let you take part in a free short walk nearby at a pace that works for you. The walks are free and open to all, though mainly aimed at people presently doing little or no exercise.

They usually last from 60 to 90 minutes, though there are also some shorter ‘beginners’ walks.

People are encouraged to walk at their own pace, safe in the knowledge that they are walking with trained leaders, one of whom will remain at the back of the group with the slowest walkers.

You can access these wellbeing walks via the Ramblers organisation and the Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity.

Active Outdoors – A great way to be active and get outdoors!

‘Active Outdoors’ is about getting people physically and mentally active while being outside in green spaces, doing workshops, courses, and activities.
