You may start work by giving us 2 days notice of commencement after you have had confirmation that your full plan's application or building notice is valid.
See your 'inspection service plan' for the stages of work when you need to notify us to inspect your project. These stages will be reviewed with you and your builder at the first inspection. If you have any queries about inspection outcomes or inspection stages please call 0300 300 8635 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our 24 hour hotline, for inspection requests only, is 0300 300 8116. Any requests received before 10am can have a site inspection that day (Monday to Friday only). When you call the hotline please tell us:
- the site address
- the application reference number
- what the inspection is for (stage of work) and the date of inspection
- your contact details
Where a building notice application has been submitted and the building works have been carried out in a satisfactory manner, a completion certificate will be issued after the final inspection.
We try to deal with completion issues on an informal basis, but we have formal powers that on occasions we may need to use. The Planning Portal (link opens in new window) has details of enforcement procedures.
Registered Competent Person Scheme
A competent person scheme allows registered individuals and businesses to certify that their own work complies with building regulations; this removes the need to make a building regulation application for certain types of work.
Further information about competent person schemes (link opens in new window) and how to join can be found on the GOV.UK website. (link opens in new window)
You can also view a full list of current scheme providers at GOV.UK (link opens in new window) and the types of work that their schemes cover.
