Pay Council Tax by Direct Debit
Direct Debit is the simplest and most convenient way for you to pay Council Tax – you won’t miss a payment, and you’re protected against mistakes, under the terms of the Direct Debit Guarantee (link opens in new window).
To set up a Direct Debit, you’ll need your Council Tax account reference number (available on your Council Tax bill) and the details of the bank or building society account that you want to pay your Council Tax from.
The easiest way to set up a Direct Debit is to do it online.

If you don't have your Council Tax bill, please call 0300 300 8306 and ask us to send you a replacement.
If you don’t have a Council Tax account yet, you’ll need to register for Council Tax before you can set up a Direct Debit.
Want to check your balance?
You can now register to see information about your Council Tax. This takes a few minutes to set up. Once you register you will be sent a letter with details to complete the set up. You can then log on any time to see what your balance is.
You can also use this to tell us if you move house, plus access other information about housing benefits, Council Tax support claims and business rates (non-domestic rates).
