Health and safety policy and guidance documents for schools

Our Corporate Health and Safety Policy applies to community and voluntary controlled schools, for which we are the employer.

In line with the policy, Head Teachers are responsible for:

  • operational delivery of health and safety practices and procedures
  • ensuring risk assessments are conducted, followed and reviewed
  • ensuring employees are aware of their responsibilities and duties in respect of health, safety and welfare

We provide policy and guidance documents, templates and signposts to support these duties.

Unless a document tells you to follow a policy or guide, you're free to adopt your own approach, so long as your alternative is of a suitable and sufficient standard.

You should have your own local health and safety policy, agreed and signed by the Head Teacher and chair of governors.

You may adapt our local policy template to suit your school, or adopt your own suitable and sufficient alternative.
