Difficulty paying your Council Tax

Council Tax - liability order hearing and summons

Please contact us before the hearing date if:

  • you think you have a valid defence against a Liability Order being issued
  • you want to make arrangements to pay your outstanding Council Tax

By telephone on 0300 300 8011 or email revenuesct@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.

You do not need to attend the hearing unless you wish to dispute your liability for the Council Tax charge. The Magistrates Court will only decide whether you are liable and then grant a Liability Order against you. The court will not consider whether you are able to pay.

If you ignore your summons

We will send you:

  • a letter telling you that a Liability Order has been granted
  • a form to complete with details of circumstances and an offer of payment

You must complete this form and send it back to us straight away. Or call us on 0300 300 8011 to provide us your information.

If you do not make a suitable arrangement to clear your outstanding balance, we can take enforcement action against you.
