Safeguarding in education

We have a dedicated Safeguarding in Education Team. The team offers the following to schools across Central Bedfordshire:

  • free training – these will be advertised throughout the year via our DSL distribution list (new DSLs can be added by emailing safeguarding.education@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk ) and via Central Essentials
  • safeguarding DSL events – these are a great opportunity to gain local information and also meet others in the profession. Network events will be advertised via Central Essentials
  • free resources – please contact us with any needs you may have; we have included a copy of our model Safeguarding and Child Protection policy (Word) and model child-on-child abuse policy (Word) below for you to adapt to use within your setting
  • free support and guidance – please find our contact details below
  • safeguarding audits and training – for a fee, we can come to your school and offer thorough audits or training packages bespoke to your school’s needs
  • Section 175 audit – this working document is sent out every October, directly to schools for completion

What we do

  • monitor effectiveness and co-ordination of partners in keeping children safe
  • provide support to the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) to implement its role
  • commissioning and delivery of training and development for Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire Safeguarding Boards

Our role

  • devise processes and procedures to support the safeguarding agenda and to inform 'what we do'
  • support partnerships with the development and implementation of their safeguarding agenda
  • support audits in meeting safeguarding standards for partners listed under Section 11 of the Children Act 2004
  • support in the evaluation of performance of all LSCB partners
  • support the Serious Case Review process
  • supply an administrative function to the LSCB
  • support partners in learning from practice
