When we get a planning application
Our Customer and Operations team checks all planning applications to make sure:
- you've provided all the required information
- you've paid the correct fee
Check what to include using our local validation guide (PDF) and the relevant validation checklist.
Send a complete and valid application to avoid delays.
If your application is valid
We’ll send you an acknowledgement letter. This includes:
- your application number
- the date we aim to make a decision
If your application is invalid
If anything is missing, we’ll contact you to ask for the extra information we need.
If you do not send the missing information within 28 days, or if you withdraw your application before it becomes valid, we’ll keep part of the fee to cover our admin costs.
We’ll try to contact you during this period to help you make your application valid.
Invalid application charges
If we close or withdraw your application, these charges apply:
- householder, advertisement or prior notification applications: £75
- minor and similar applications: £120
- major and complex applications: £250
