Community right to bid or sale

A local community group has identified the site to be of importance to their community’s social well-being and the site has been listed as an asset of community value. This means, if the site comes up for sale, eligible community groups will be given the opportunity to make a bid to buy it. If a community group confirms an intention to bid within 6 weeks of notification, a moratorium of 6 months (temporary pause) is placed on the sale of the asset to allow the community group time to prepare their bid.

During this period, we may continue to promote the site to the market and discuss potential sales but will not exchange contracts (or enter into a binding contract to do so later). There is one exception, which is we may sell to a community interest group during the moratorium, or temporary pause period.

After this period, either the 6 weeks if there has been no community interest or the full 6 months - Central Bedfordshire Council is free to sell to whomever they choose and at whatever price, and no further moratorium or pause will apply for the remainder of a protected period lasting 18 months (running from the same start date of when Central Bedfordshire Council wishing to sell).
