Certificates for births, marriages, deaths or civil partnerships

Request a certificate for a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership

We can provide certificates for the following events, if they took place in Central Bedfordshire:

  • marriage
  • civil partnership
  • birth – you can buy either a full or short birth certificate; the short version will show only the full name, place, and date of birth
  • death – you can buy either a full or short death certificate; the short version will omit the cause of death and sex of the deceased

Apply for a certificate

If you select the standard service, your certificate will be processed and dispatched within 15 days. This applies to first and second class post. Please note our post is dispatched from our office once a week on Wednesdays.

If you select the priority service there is an additional fee. Your certificate(s) will be available for collection or dispatched on the next working day from receipt of your application, providing we receive it before 4pm. We will send your certificate(s) to you using 1st class postage.

Please note that if you are pre-ordering certificates for a forthcoming registration appointment that has been booked, you will be able to collect the certificates at the appointment, so therefore please do not select the priority service.

Call 0300 300 8000 if you'd prefer to apply and pay over the telephone.

If we cannot find your certificate

We still charge a search fee if we are not able to find a certificate with the information you have given.

The charges are:

  • £5 for a standard certificate
  • £10 for a priority certificate

You will receive a refund for your order, minus the search fee amount for each certificate we are not able to find.
