Have your say on the a new draft Housing Asset Management Strategy

Wednesday, 1 February 2023

We are inviting local people to have their say on the new draft Housing Asset Management Strategy (HAMS).

The draft strategy sets out our key priorities for investing, managing, and maintaining its housing stock. This includes garages, play areas, green spaces and parking areas and other related assets over the next five years.

The key priorities include:

  • building homes that responds to local need and demand
  • ensuring the health, safety and security of residents in their homes
  • creating sustainable communities and building homes that are energy efficient with the goal to be carbon neutral by 2030
  • respond to fuel poverty issues that are impacting many residents.

Councillor Eugene Ghent, Executive Member for Assets and Housing Delivery, said:

Housing demand and need in Central Bedfordshire is increasing. More and more people are approaching us for affordable housing and it’s important we increase the right types of homes, in the right places, to meet different needs. The new draft strategy explains how we will do this over the short, medium and long-term using a range of flexible and dynamic approaches. We want our residents to influence the direction that we are taking to protect and enhance our housing , not just for us but for the future generations living in Central Bedfordshire. I encourage everyone to give their feedback and help us to deliver the quality and quantity of modern homes needed.

We own and manage 5,422 homes valued at around £608million. In addition there are over 370 leasehold properties and other housing related assets valued at a further £10.8million.

The new draft strategy will guide our approach in how it manages all of this and invest for the future.

Read the full draft strategy and give your feedback by Tuesday 25 April 2023.
