Community joined forces for successful Environmental Action Day in Houghton Regis

Friday, 10 October 2025

Central Bedfordshire Council, local partners and residents came together on Tuesday 7 October for a dedicated Environmental Action Day in Houghton Regis.

The day aimed to raise awareness about waste responsibility, tackle local litter and fly tipping, and provide advice to residents on recycling and safe waste disposal.

Activities in Bedford Square included information stalls run by our Community Safety and Environmental Services teams, advice on bulky waste collections, and a recycling quiz for children. Residents were also given free recycling kits to encourage positive habits at home.

Teams were in the community throughout the day, collecting bulky waste items and clearing litter. While officers were also on hand to advise on responsible waste management and enforcement against fly tipping.

Councillor Tracey Wye, Executive Member for Environment at Central Bedfordshire Council, said:

This event shows what can be achieved when the Council, partners and residents work together. Keeping our communities clean and safe is a shared responsibility and I would like to thank everyone who took part.

Partner organisations taking part included Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Streetwatch, Age UK, Public Protection, Housing Enforcement and Engagement teams.

We are now reviewing the results of the day.

Residents are encouraged to continue playing their part by reporting fly-tipping.
