Flood Ready Together: Small steps together can make a big difference

We're launching Flood Ready Together this autumn to help residents take simple and practical steps to protect themselves, their families and their homes from flooding. Flooding doesn’t just come from rivers. It can happen after heavy rain, from drains or sewers, or a mix of all three. The impact is the same if you’re not ready.

Small actions now – like checking your own flood risk, putting practical measures into place, signing up for free Environment Agency alerts, and making a simple household plan – can make a big difference when it matters most.

To support this campaign, we're hosting free community drop-in events; these will take place across Central Bedfordshire. Residents can get practical advice from The National Flood Forum, Environment Agency, the Internal Drainage Board and Anglian Water and view local flood maps as well as pick up free resources.

Councillor Adam Zerny, Leader of Central Bedfordshire Council, said:

We all need to all work together to make sure our homes, businesses and property are protected from the risks of flooding. Last year we saw only too well, the great damage which can be caused when our area experiences extremely heavy rainfall in a short period of time.

Attending one of the council’s ‘Flood Ready Together’ events is a great way to learn about the risks to you, and to find out what you can do to protect your property.
