Friday, 29 August 2025

With just a week to go, anticipation is mounting as Britain’s biggest professional cycle race gets set to speed through Central Bedfordshire.

Stage three of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men takes place on Thursday 4 September, bringing some of the world’s best cyclists to our towns and villages before a spectacular finish in Ampthill.

The Lloyds Tour of Britain Men is the UK’s largest free-to-attend sporting event, will showcase top international talent and promises an unforgettable day for cycling fans and residents alike

The 122.8-kilometre stage will start in Milton Keynes and travel through Woburn, Toddington, Barton-le-Clay and Shefford, with a spectator-friendly double loop around Northill and Old Warden before finishing alongside Ampthill’s beautiful Great Park.

Fans can expect to see an incredible line-up of riders, including former Tour of Britain winner Julian Alaphilippe (Tudor Pro Cycling), alongside stage winners Sam Bennett (Decathlon AG2R LaMondiale), Ben Swift (INEOS Grenadiers), Rasmus Tiller (Uno-X Mobility) and Matteo Trentin (Tudor Pro Cycling). This will also be the final opportunity to see Tour de France champion and Olympic gold medallist Geraint Thomas in competitive action before his retirement.

The finish line in Ampthill will be alongside the town’s historic Great Park, where fans can enjoy live race coverage on a big screen and explore the event village. Visitors will find plenty of activities and entertainment, including

  • Cycle Exchange, Tredz and other big names in the fan zone

  • Ice Trikes showcasing adaptive bikes and trikes

  • Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s virtual reality car experience

  • Bedfordshire Police bike security marking and safety advice

  • Road safety tips from Central Bedfordshire Council’s road safety team

  • Health and fitness advice from Everyone Active

  • Bike swap opportunities for cycling enthusiasts

With thousands expected to attend, visitors are encouraged to plan their journey in advance. There will be no parking available in Ampthill town centre, but a free shuttle bus will operate from Flitwick Interchange, next to the train station (MK45 1AJ), every 15 minutes throughout the day. Free parking is also available at the Rufus Centre and Flitwick Football Club, both within easy reach of the shuttle or a short walk to Ampthill.
