We're seeking parent representative for children’s committee

Thursday, 29 February 2024

We're looking for a parent governor representative on our Children’s Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OSC).

We're seeking applications from parent governors of all academy schools within Central Bedfordshire.

Joining the OSC provides an opportunity to give a voice to parents across Central Bedfordshire, as it is one of four overview and scrutiny committees responsible for reviewing service delivery and performance. The OSC gives representatives an opportunity to help to deliver policies and make recommendations to our Executive.

Among other things, parent governors make us aware of the main education issues which concern other parents. They attend the meetings of the Children’s Services OSC – which meets during the day, roughly every 8 weeks, usually at Priory House in Chicksands – to act as a non-political voice, and then feedback on any discussions and decisions made at the meetings to parents.

Anyone wishing to apply will need to self-nominate. Parent governors are eligible in any academy school phase (lower, primary, middle, secondary or upper).

The closing date for nominations is 4pm on Friday 22 March 2024.

If more than one candidate applies, an election will begin on Monday 25 March, running until 4pm on Monday 22 April. The successful candidate will be appointed until 30 April 2027.

Although the parent governor representatives are voluntary positions, they will receive a meetings allowance of £75 for up to 4 hours or £150 for more than 4 hours, together with travel expenses.
