School art competition

Terms and conditions for the school art competition

By participating in the competition, you are agreeing to these competition terms and conditions. The competition is being run by Central Bedfordshire Council (Central Bedfordshire Council).

Eligibility to enter

Entrants are to draw or paint a picture of what education means to them.

The competition is open to all Central Bedfordshire residents with children in Central Bedfordshire schools aged 16 years or under.

There is a limit of one entry per school. Schools that have both primary and secondary aged children should confirm which category (whether that be primary or secondary) their submission comes under. Schools with additional resource provisions can submit two entries in total (one from their mainstream age range, and one from their ARP) and the competition is completely free to enter.

The children are to submit their entry to their school by 1 March 2024 (closing date) and after this date no further entries to the competition and schools will be permitted.

Central Bedfordshire Council accept no responsibility for entries not received for whatever reason.

By entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and that you are eligible to receive any prizes that may be awarded to you.

The entry

Central Bedfordshire Council reserves the right, at any time and without prior notice, to cancel the competition or amend these terms and conditions including any dates as Central Bedfordshire Council see fit.

The schools have until 5 March to sift through their entries and choose one winning entry.

The schools are to submit their entry on behalf of the pupils selected via a photograph or scanned-in document by emailing cscapitaldelivery@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk by 5pm on 6 March 2024 (submission date).

Entries should include the name, age and year group of the pupil as well as the school name which is entering. The original artwork should be safely kept as high-resolution photos of the winning entries will be needed.

The prize

The winning prize will be a social value construction related activity provided by one of Central Bedfordshire Council’s contractors. Activities include careers talks, site visits and shadowing for secondary school children and for primary school children, age-appropriate construction activities including a ‘digger day’ and bug hotel session. Prizes can also be adapted for children with additional needs should this be required.  A full list of prizes is on the previous web page.

The prize is as stated, non-transferable and non-exchangeable, and no cash alternatives will be provided.

Prizes are subject to availability and Central Bedfordshire Council reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.

Central Bedfordshire Council’s decision on any aspect of the competition is final and binding, and no correspondence will be entered into about it.

Winner announcement

The winners shall be chosen by the Central Bedfordshire Council adjudication panel and the winning schools/entrants will be notified via email during week commencing 25 March 2024.

If the winning school cannot be contacted or do not claim the prize within 14 days of notification, Central Bedfordshire Council reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winners and pick a replacement winner.

Central Bedfordshire Council will contact the winning schools to agree a date and time for the selected contractors to visit the schools as part of winner’s week. This is proposed to be week commencing 20 May 2024.

The winners and their parent/guardian agree to the use of his/her name and image in any publicity material,  as well as their entry.

Data protection and publicity

You agree that any personal information that you provide when entering the competition will be used by Central Bedfordshire Council for the purposes of administering the competition and for other purposes as specified in our Privacy Policy.

The winner's name and artwork will be announced on Central Bedfordshire Council's website and social media channels.

Should any of the winning designs be potential to any copyright claims, Central Bedfordshire Council may be unable to use the drawing subject to any relevant legislation and/or case law.
