Section 106 Community Funding - Dunstable
Under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, contributions can be sought from developers towards the costs of specifically providing community and social infrastructure, if the need has arisen as a result of a new development taking place.
This funding is known as Section 106 (S106) community facilities funding, and it can be used to develop and / or improve village halls or community centres. This could be an extension, new kitchen or toilet facilities, installation of a hearing loop or other improvements. Routine maintenance such as painting and decorating is not generally supported.
Community funding
We're working in partnership with Dunstable Joint Committee (link opens in new window) to help them form small community grants schemes using a proportion of their S106 community facilities funding.
In the first instance, grant applications are received by the partnership committees from local community and voluntary organisations looking to improve their existing community facilities, or create new community facilities that will benefit local residents and encourage community cohesion.
Partnership committees have a role in influencing how this S106 funding should be invested in local community facilities; however we, as the planning authority, make the final decision on grant applications to ensure compliance with the S106 Agreement.
