Overview and scrutiny is how councillors review and challenge decisions made by the council’s Executive.
Scrutiny committees help make sure decisions are transparent, evidence-based and in the best interests of residents.
What overview and scrutiny does
Overview and scrutiny at Central Bedfordshire Council:
- reviews council policies, services and performance
- examines decisions made by the Executive
- allows councillors to question decision-makers in public meetings
- considers the views of residents, partners and other organisations
- makes recommendations to improve policies and services
Scrutiny committees can look at any issue affecting local people, including council services and wider public services.

We have several overview and scrutiny committees that focus on different council services.
