Parents and guardians

Accessing the Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF)

Any child or young person who has left the care of the local authority on an Adoption Order, Special Guardianship Order, or a Care Arrangement Order can access the government’s Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF).

Set up to provide essential therapeutic services for children who have experienced trauma, this can fund up to £2,500 per year for specialist assessment and £5,000 per year for therapy for the child up until they turn 21 (or 25 if they have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)).

This can be used to support improvements in:

  • relationships with friends, family members, teachers, and school staff
  • engagement with learning
  • emotional regulation and behaviour management
  • confidence and ability to enjoy positive family life and social relationships

Schools should encourage families to access this support.

Families with children/young people with Adoption Orders can access the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF) by contacting Adoption Connects.

Families with children/young people with Special Guardianship Orders and Care Arrangement Orders can access the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF) by contacting the Fostering Team.
