What will not be affected by changes to the scheme? – Council Tax Support scheme consultation 2025
Consultation closes: Wednesday, 7 January 2026
Consultation opened: Wednesday, 26 November 2025
While we've proposed changes to some aspects of Local Council Tax Support, there are several key areas that will remain the same. These include:
- support for pension-age residents: this is still set by national rules and is not affected by local schemes
- disabled disregards: this is additional income that is not counted and this area of support remains in place
- income-banded scheme: the way people are assessed for support (the applicant’s income is assessed and placed into a band to determine the discount they will receive) will not change
- non-dependent deductions: there will continue to be no extra amounts that some adults living in a household may have to contribute towards Council Tax
- capital limits: people who have over £16,000 in savings will continue to not be entitled to Local Council Tax Support
