Consultation on school admission arrangements for 2027 to 2028

About the consultation – school admission arrangements for 2027 to 2028

Consultation closed: Wednesday 3 December 2025
Consultation opened: Wednesday 22 October 2025

We're responsible for coordinating school admissions for all community and voluntary controlled schools in the area. We are consulting with schools, governing bodies, school trusts, parents, carers, the local community and neighbouring councils about proposed changes to the way three schools in Central Bedfordshire – Shillington Lower School, Edward Peake CofE VC School and St Andrew’s CofE VC Primary School – will manage admissions for the 2027 to 2028 school year. Your views are important and will help us make informed decisions.

Background

Every year, we must ensure that all children are offered a school place fairly and consistently. We also have to consult when we propose changes to admissions arrangements, such as how children are prioritised for places or the number of places available in a school.

Current standard admission arrangements

We operate a standard admissions policy for community and voluntary controlled schools within Central Bedfordshire. The current oversubscription criteria are applied in the event that the number of applications exceeds the available school places.

We're now consulting on proposed changes to admission arrangements for 3 schools for the academic year 2027 to 2028.
