Community Action Day in Toddington makes a difference in the community

Tuesday, 15 August 2023

Weapon sweeps, speed checks, parking enforcement and property protection advice were just some of the activities at the latest Community Action Day in Toddington.

Throughout the jam-packed day, patrols and door knocks were carried out to engage with residents and businesses about any concerns they had and offer help and advice, including how to report community safety issues.

Information stalls were based on the village green throughout the day, with our officers from community safety, public health, domestic abuse, and trading standards sharing advice and information about a range of topics including community safety issues and scam awareness.

They were joined by Bedfordshire Police, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Toddington Parish Council, Better Housing Better Health, and the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board who were all on hand to talk to residents. Everyone Active offered games on the green.

Our Environmental Services team undertook a litter pick in the area and cleared verges, we had our Litter Cube displayed on the green to show the amount of waste collected in the area in one day.

Our Public Protection team spoke with local dog walkers and handed out leaflets promoting licenced dog breeders and boarding establishments. The team also conducted two unannounced checks on boarding establishments in Toddington to ensure compliance to the regulations.

The importance of being available and visible in the community was evident at the event. When help was needed for somone in the community who had disclosed that they were in an abusive relationship, our Domestic Abuse team was able to provide support and advice.

Councillor Rebecca Hares, our Executive Member for Health and Community Liaison, said:

The Community Action Day event in Toddington was very successful, with active engagement between our teams and residents using a range of activities. This enabled us to understand any community issues and concerns and discuss tangible solutions which will lead to a significant improvement in the lives of the Toddington community.

Networking events are about teams working together to bring access to services and advice for residents and that was certainly the case during this event.

Our next Community Action Day will be in Arlesey on Friday 15 September.
