Solar Together renewable energy scheme returns to Central Bedfordshire

Wednesday, 14 June 2023

We're pleased to announce our participation in the Solar Together scheme for a second year which enables homeowners and businesses to invest in renewable energy through a group buying scheme.

Residents and businesses have until Friday 11 August to register their interest and find out if their home or business is suitable for solar panels, battery storage or an electric vehicle charger. The scheme focuses on supporting residents to install high quality PV (photovoltaic) systems, but it is always recommended that additional quotes are sought, and research is done on the type of panels and other components to be installed.

Councillor Tracey Wye, our Executive Member for Sustainability and Climate Resilience, said:

The climate challenge affects everyone, and we are pleased to highlight ways people can find out more about investing in renewable technologies. Of course, this scheme is just one of many options available. I hope getting the information out will encourage people to find out more about solar panels and if the technology is the right move for them to ultimately save money and reduce their carbon emissions.

Registration is free online and there is no obligation to go ahead with an installation. Once registered, customers receive a personal recommendation from a MCS certified installer. Those who choose to accept the offer will then go on to have a technical survey.

Nearly 300 systems have been installed in Central Bedfordshire since the scheme first launched last summer.

Solar Together Bedfordshire is supported by neighbouring authorities Bedford Borough Council and Luton Borough Council and delivered in conjunction with iChoosr, who are experts in group buying.

The scheme aligns closely with our ambition to reach net zero carbon emissions from its own operations by 2030.
