We're taking to the roads to tackle potholes

Wednesday, 31 May 2023

We're taking decisive action to fix potholes by implementing our new highways contract.

In just one month, our contractor Milestone Infrastructure, a part of M Group Services, has completed over 2,000 repairs, including work on potholes, carriageways, footways, and streetlights.

The team has also responded to around 280 emergency call-outs, such as streetlighting and flooding, since the contract started on 1 April 2023.

Councillor Simon Ford, our Executive Member for Highways and Waste said:

Our roads are a vital part of our infrastructure, connecting residents and businesses throughout the area. That’s why we are committed to improving the network’s condition and ensuring people can travel safely and conveniently to their destinations.

Freezing conditions with the prolonged periods of heavy rain we encountered earlier in the year led to increased potholes nationwide and in Central Bedfordshire.

Residents who notice a new pothole on the Central Bedfordshire road network are asked to report them online, so we can investigate them further and repair them if appropriate.

Any potholes already reported do not need to be registered again. However, in an emergency, dangerous potholes or other safety-related issues can be reported to our highways 24-hour emergency team on 0300 300 8049.
