Is your household eligible for support with your energy bills?

Friday, 5 May 2023

We're encouraging residents to find out if they are eligible for support with their energy bills through one of two government schemes.

Households who have not already benefitted from support may be eligible for funding from the Energy Bills Support Scheme Alternative Funding scheme or the Alternative Fuel Payment.

The Energy Bills Support Scheme Alternative Funding is for households who have not already benefitted from £400 assistance with gas and electricity through their energy supplier.

This was applied to most households automatically; but some households may not have received it including those who pay for energy through a landlord, housing manager or site owner, or live in a park home, houseboat or off the electricity grid.

The Alternative Fuel Payment (AFP) is for households who are not on the gas mains grid and use alternative fuels for heating – like oil, wood, biomass, and smokeless coal.

Households can apply if they have not received support of £200 for heating costs through their electricity supplier and must be able to demonstrate that they have spent at least £200 since September 2022 on alternative fuels.

Households will need to apply for both schemes on the government’s website, and their details will then be passed on to us so we can check residency and make the payment.

It will take up to 6 weeks to deal with applications. If an application is successful, households will receive payment by credit transfer to their bank account.
