Central Bedfordshire pupils receive upper and secondary school offers

Thursday, 2 March 2023

Wednesday (1 March) was National Secondary Offer Day, with pupils across Central Bedfordshire finding out if they have been granted one of their school preferences for the next academic year.

For pupils that applied to transfer to upper school from September 2023, 97% of children were granted their first preference and 1.2% of children were granted their second preference.

For pupils who will be starting secondary school from September 2023, 82% of children were granted their first preference and 4.9% of children were granted their second preference.

This year there were 1,667 applications for upper school places and 942 applications for secondary school places. Most of these were via our online system; 99% of applicants to upper schools and 98% of applicants to secondary schools applied online.

Councillor Sue Clark, our Executive Member for Families, Education and Children, said:

I’m pleased that the majority of pupils have been allocated their first choice of school for September. Demand for places is high, and we remain committed to ensuring that young people in Central Bedfordshire can attend a good, local school. I’d like to thank all our incredible teachers and support staff who will be working hard to support our young people as they begin secondary and upper school life this September.

Anyone wishing to decline or change their offered place can do so by submitting a change of preference form. The deadline for this is 15 March 2023 with new offers going out on 21 April 2023.

Meanwhile, children starting school and transferring to middle school will find out whether they have received their first preference on 17 April, National Primary Offer Day.
