New leisure operator to support our ongoing investment in leisure facilities

Thursday, 9 February 2023

We have appointed Everyone Active as our new leisure management operator responsible for managing our leisure and cultural facilities.

From 1 April 2023, Everyone Active will begin running our six leisure centres: Saxon Pool and Leisure Centre, The Dunstable Centre, Flitwick Leisure Centre, Houghton Regis Leisure Centre, Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre and Sandy Sports Centre, as well as The Grove Theatre in Dunstable and The Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre.

We have continued to invest significantly in new leisure provisions currently working on the delivery of exciting new leisure centres in Houghton Regis and Leighton Linslade, together with the expansion of facilities at the Jenkins Pavilion in Sandy.

Having a single experienced provider managing the leisure centres and theatres will offer a consistent service that is customer-focused and engaged with the needs of the community.

Councillor Tracey Stock, Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:

We look forward to working closely with Everyone Active, our new leisure centre operator, to make the most of our wide range of leisure facilities so they continue to offer something for everyone across Central Bedfordshire.

We appreciate the importance of having quality leisure amenities for promoting an active and healthier lifestyle and that's why we are investing significantly in new leisure centres at Kingsland in Houghton Regis and in Leighton Linslade and we are planning to expand facilities at Sandy Jenkins Pavilion too. Our leisure centres will benefit residents now and in the future.

Councillor Ian Dalgarno, Executive Member for Community Services, said:

Including both our cultural hubs, the Grove Theatre and the Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre, within this new contract means we will have one provider using their expertise to deliver a better and more joined up mix of cultural experiences and performances for residents and visitors. We are committed to enhancing our arts and cultural offer across Central Bedfordshire.

Dan Hicks, Everyone Active’s regional contract manager, said:

We are delighted to officially begin our partnership with Central Bedfordshire Council soon and are looking forward to many successful years ahead.

The fantastic centres within this contract are so important for health and wellbeing in local communities and, with plenty of exciting developments in the pipeline, we are incredibly privileged to be chosen to manage them.

We look forward to creating a close, impactful relationship with the council in the coming years, alongside helping as many people as possible to get active.

Following a thorough procurement process, Everyone Active will take over from Stevenage Leisure Limited (SLL) following the award of a 10-year contract.

Memberships, classes and lessons will continue as normal during the transition and any booked tickets to theatre shows and performances will remain valid.
