Flitwick transport interchange: Steppingley Road resurfacing works

Thursday, 30 June 2022

As part of the works taking place to deliver a new Flitwick transport interchange, we'll be resurfacing Steppingley Road.

Steppingley Road provides access to the train station as well as a supermarket and a key roundabout for access in and around Flitwick town centre.

Following a recent inspection, it has become apparent the condition of the road structure will require intervention in the near future and the most practical solution to reduce the frequency of disruption to people in the area, is to resurface the road alongside the construction of the new transport interchange.

The work will be delivered in three phases across the summer. Phase one will see Steppingley Road closed from 6pm on Friday 8 July until 6am on Monday 11 July, with works scheduled at times across the weekend to limit noise disturbance to residents and businesses. Following completion of phase one, phase two and three will be confirmed in due course.

During the three phases of work, diversions for Steppingley Road will be in place, with all motorists able to access one entrance to the Tesco superstore off Steppingley Road (station end) and can exit via the petrol station onto Coniston Road.

Councillor Mark Liddiard, our Deputy Executive Member for Planning and Regeneration said:

We are pleased that works are progressing ahead of schedule on the new Flitwick transport interchange. We are mindful that the resurfacing work may be inconvenient to residents and businesses; however, we are keen to repair the current sub-structure of the road as soon as possible to prevent greater disruption in the future.

We apologise for any difficulties these works may cause.

We will communicate with residents and businesses ahead of the work, to help minimise disruption.
