VentureDay 2022 sets businesses up for the future

Tuesday, 28 June 2022

Over 150 businesses, investors and entrepreneurs from across the wider region returned to Cranfield University campus for a day of learning, networking and business lead generation.

Together with SEMLEP Growth Hub, we jointly sponsored the annual Cranfield VentureDay conference on Thursday 9 June, which focused on how to ‘Build Resilience for a Sustainable and Profitable Future’.

Organised by the Bettany Centre for Entrepreneurship and the Cranfield Sustainability Group, there were talks from Christopher Baker-Brian, Co-founder and Managing Director of BOXX and Shelley Lawson, Co-founder and Strategy Director of Frog Bikes about their business journeys and renewable energy challenges.

Our Business and Investment and Sustainability teams had a stand at the event and offered the delegates invaluable business advice and guidance on how to incorporate sustainability into their businesses.

Councillor Richard Wenham, Leader of the Council, who attended the event, said:

It was great to enjoy such a positive and informative in-person event again. There was so much to be taken from this event and I hope the businesses who attended now feel better equipped and motivated to grow and flourish sustainably.

Councillor Steven Dixon, our Executive Member for Sustainability and Transformation who also attended, said:

In line with our Sustainability Plan, we have been rolling out Carbon Literacy training to staff to make them aware of the costs and impact of carbon and highlighting how often small changes can make a real difference.

Sustainability is vital for our future and represents a significant opportunity that businesses can embrace to do their bit for the planet and at the same time unlock new opportunities for growth and jobs.

Dr. Stephanie Hussels, Director at Bettany Centre for Entrepreneurship, said:

We would like to thank Central Bedfordshire Council and SEMLEP for their ongoing support and for sponsoring the event. Now more than ever it is vital to collaborate to help businesses build resilience in today’s uncertain climate while responding to huge planetary crisis.

At Cranfield University we are proud to continue to play our part in assisting SMEs on their growth journeys and creating a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
