Have your say on our SEND Strategy for 2022 to 2025

Wednesday, 27 April 2022

We've launched a consultation asking for views on a new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) strategy 2022-2025, to improve the service for children and young people with SEND.

The consultation, which will run until 22 June 2022, sets out our plans for improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

The strategy has been co-produced, reflecting the priorities and aspirations of families and partners across Central Bedfordshire, and demonstrates a shared commitment as a partnership to continue to work together to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND and their families.

Following the consultation, a SEND Strategy action plan will be co-produced across the partnership which will set what we are going to do to ensure that we have sufficient suitable educational provision for all children and young people with SEND, and that children and young people with SEND receive the right support at the right time, including those in receipt of SEN support and those who have an education, health and care plan (EHCP). This strategy will also be used to inform the development of the joint commissioning plan and SEND placement plan, which collectively will deliver its priorities and ambitions over the next 3 years.

Councillor Sue Clark, our Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Children, Families and Schools, said:

Ensuring that every child and young person in Central Bedfordshire has access to the right support and services is an absolute priority for us and our partners. We have been working hard to improve our SEND services, and having an effective strategy in place that sets out our aspirations is key to ensuring we continue to improve, while focusing on the areas that matter most to the people we support.

Our draft strategy has been co-produced with families of SEND children, and it is important we hear from as many families as possible to help us finalise it.
