National primary offer day: pupils found out where they’re going to school

Thursday, 21 April 2022

Monday (19 April) was national primary offer day, so pupils starting primary school and moving up to middle school in September found out which school they'll be going to.

Over 3,500 pupils applied for a primary school place for September 2022 and 93% were offered their first choice.

For middle school places, we received over 2,200 applications and 93% were offered their first choice.

In total, 5,830 children applied for primary school and middle school places – an increase from 2021, when we received just over 5,300 applications. There was an increase in pupils applying for places at primary school – from 3,175 last year to 3,524 this year.

Middle school application numbers remained around the same. 2,246 pupils applied to middle school this year, only 64 more than the 2,182 middle school place applications received last year.

98% of applications received this year were submitted online.

Councillor Sue Clark, our Executive Member for Families, Education and Children, said:

More pupils applied for places at primary and secondary school this year, and we’re pleased we have been able to confirm for over 90% of pupils their first choice of school. We are committed to ensuring that pupils have access to quality education, and we have ambitious, long-term plans to raise education standards and progress for our pupils in Central Bedfordshire. Congratulations to all our pupils and good luck for the coming academic year.

Anyone wishing to decline or change their offered place can do so: find out how to change your preference (this is the same for lower, primary and middle schools).

The deadline for this is 3 May 2022, with new offers going out on 23 May 2022 (middle school) and 1 June (starting school).
