New immersive spin studio coming soon to Flitwick Leisure Centre

Friday, 8 February 2019

The public will soon be able to cycle underwater, through a metropolis or jungle, or even up a glacier in a new indoor spin studio being installed at Flitwick Leisure Centre.

The new group spin studio will offer the well-known Les Mills Spin programmes, including ‘The Trip’ and 'Sprint' classes. These combine cinema-quality projected images, sound and lighting to create fun, exciting and immersive workout experiences.

These are the first of this type of spin classes to be offered in Bedfordshire. Research suggests that using technology to create an immersive experience helps boost exertion and decreases the perceived effort for new exercisers.

The aim is to help riders’ minds become absorbed in an experience where they visit digital new worlds, to help them to sustain their effort and motivate them to push themselves further, becoming fitter in the process.

Councillor Steven Watkins, Deputy Executive Member for Community Services - Libraries, Leisure and Countryside at Central Bedfordshire Council, said: "We are excited to soon be offering these fun new spin classes to our residents, and proud that Flitwick Leisure Centre will be the first in the area to offer this unique exercise experience. We’re sure that these innovative new classes will help inspire more residents to get active."

The work to build the new studio is starting next week (Monday 11 February) and should be completed by spring. Users and members of the leisure centre should not be affected by the work, as the studio is being built at the far end of the leisure centre in the area currently occupied by unused changing rooms.
