Planning application submitted for upgrades to Sandy leisure facilities

Friday, 10 December 2021

A new planning application has been submitted for an extension to the Jenkins Pavilion, following a consultation with residents on proposals to improve the leisure offer in Sandy.

The consultation sought views on the proposed extension of the Jenkins Pavilion at Sunderland Road Recreation Ground in Sandy to enable more people to access high quality sports facilities.

The proposed extension to the Jenkins Pavilion would provide:

  • two full size, purpose-built exercise studios
  • larger gym (approximately 55 stations)
  • a flexible studio space for spin bikes and other activities
  • reception, office, accessible toilets and lift

Our Executive Member for Health & Wellbeing and Communities, Councillor Tracey Stock, said:

We are excited that plans for the proposed extension to the Jenkins Pavilion have been submitted. If approved, the facilities will offer an enhanced leisure offer for Sandy residents.

We have worked in collaboration with Sandy Town Council and local sports clubs throughout the consultation period and will continue to throughout the planning and construction process.

Key stakeholders such as Sandy Town Council, Sport England and Bedfordshire Football Association will have the opportunity to formally respond to the proposed scheme.

If approved, the building works are due to be completed in summer 2023 to ensure the school spaces needed for the planned construction work are available.
