Thornhill Primary School new teaching block delayed

Friday, 3 December 2021

The completion of a new teaching block at Thornhill Primary School in Houghton Regis has been delayed until spring 2022.

The COVID-19 impact on the global production of building materials continue to have an effect.

The new block is being built to meet the future demand for new school places forecast with the emerging housing growth of Houghton Regis North 1 and 2 (the Linmere Development), increasing its capacity from 210 pupils to 630, so the delay will not impact current pupils.

Our Executive Member for Families, Education and Children, Councillor Sue Clark, said:

Parents, pupils, school staff and the local community will be able to see that the new teaching block at Thornhill Primary School is nearing completion, and I know anticipation is high for when the building can open its doors.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have an effect on all areas of our lives and Thornhill is among many building projects across the country experiencing issues.

Fortunately, this will not impact on current pupils and their education. We look forward to the children having their state-of-the-art new school building ready as soon as possible.
