Warmer, greener homes on offer with an extra £3.9 million funding from the Green Homes Grant scheme

Monday, 8 November 2021

More Central Bedfordshire residents are set to benefit from the government’s Green Homes Grant Scheme, with funding available to install free loft and cavity wall insulation.

This is in addition to a previous award of £1 million that was used to successfully insulate 99 residential park homes.

The funding, provided by the Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy, will provide loft and cavity wall insulation for private homeowners whose properties have poor energy performance ratings.

The Green Homes Grant scheme is accessible for households who have a combined annual income of no more than £30,000. It will assist residents to have a warmer home, reduce energy bills, contribute to reducing carbon emissions across Central Bedfordshire and get us closer to our goal of being carbon neutral by 2030.

Loft insulation is one of the most simple, affordable and effective methods of improving a home’s energy efficiency and could save you hundreds on your annual energy bills.

Councillor Eugene Ghent, our Executive Member for Housing and Assets said:

We are delighted to be able to offer residents an opportunity to access this funding and insulate their homes at no cost to themselves.

By insulating lofts and cavity walls we can greatly assist our residents to improve the warmth and comfort of their homes, save money on their fuel bills and make a positive contribution towards our action on the climate emergency by reducing carbon emissions.

The application process is simple and only take a couple of minutes. I would urge residents to act now as the grant is only available for works that are completed by March 2022.
