Have your say on proposed age range change for Flitwick school

Thursday, 9 September 2021

We've launched a statutory consultation regarding a proposed change of age range for Kingsmoor Lower School in Flitwick.

Read more about the statutory notice for Kingdmoor Lower School.

The proposal put forward by the governing body of Kingsmoor Lower School is to lower its age range from 3 to 9 years old, to 2 to 9 years old, for the start of the January 2022 term.

The proposal will enable parents to avoid having to place their children in an alternate early years setting, at age 2, before they are able to register their children with Kingsmoor Lower pre-school, at age 3.

Following a four-week preliminary consultation carried out by the school in April / May 2021, which resulted in overwhelming support for the change, the school’s governing body submitted a request to us, to consider the change of age range and to carry out a statutory consultation for the proposal.

Councillor Sue Clark, our Executive Member for Families, Education and Children, said:

This proposal is good news for families in Flitwick. I would encourage as many of them as possible to have their say and we will carefully consider the feedback before making a final decision.

Responses to the consultation are required by 6 October 2021.

After this date, the decision on whether to approve the change will be made by our Executive Member for Families, Education and Children, after consideration of the responses to both parts of the consultation process.
