Improvements lead to ‘Good’ CQC rating for our reablement service

Our adult social care reablement service has been rated ‘Good’ following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The latest inspection, which took place in June and July, focused on the areas of concern that were highlighted during a previous inspection in 2019, when the service was rated as ‘Requires Improvement’. Since that rating, we put in place a robust action plan to address the areas highlighted.
The CQC’s report focused on assurances regarding systems, processes and management but also interviewed families and their relatives to find out about the impact of those changes on the we people support. The report notes that most people and their relatives described the staff at the reablement service as good, caring, friendly and helpful.
In addition, people were happy with how staff supported them to meet their individual needs and they felt safe. The detailed information CQC found in people’s care plans they said ensured the support delivered was also person centred.
The reablement service provides short term personal care of up to six weeks to people needing support to regain their independence, for example after a stay in hospital.

I am delighted with the outcome of the inspection, and to see the improvements made to the service. Our reablement service works hard to help people become independent again, so I’m particularly pleased to see the feedback in the CQC’s report from customers about the support they have received.
The improvements made are even more noteworthy because the service has been under extra pressure over the past year as a result of the pandemic. I would like to express my thanks to the managers and staff of the service who have put in exceptional effort to make improvements and achieve this rating.
