Pre-works begin for construction of new Flitwick Interchange

We're moving forward with exciting plans to improve Flitwick train station with a new transport hub, connecting bus and rail services for the community.
In order for work to start on redeveloping the train station, pre-works to demolish a kebab site on the site of the new interchange have started.
We've invested nearly £5 million of funding, along with South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP), into the interchange.
Once construction starts later in the summer, the new interchange will feature several improvements, including:
- a new station forecourt with pedestrian, cycle and vehicle access
- a new passenger drop-off and dedicated taxi areas
- a public transport interchange with three bus stops, passenger waiting areas, including real-time departure information
- improvements to Steppingley Road, including vehicle access to both the station and Tesco opposite
- dedicated facilities for Center Parcs Woburn passenger collection and drop-off
Our Executive Member for Community Services, Councillor Ian Dalgarno, said:
The development of Flitwick train station will be transformational for our communities and is an essential part of people’s everyday lives as they travel across our region for work, school and leisure.
Access to good quality and well-connected public transport is key for jobs and recovery from the pandemic.
The building is expected to be demolished by Friday 4 June and the car park will unavailable during the period of works.
