New school term dates for January 2021

The government announced, today (30 December 2020), revised start dates for the January 2021 term for some schools.

Primary and lower schools unaffected

The new school term starts from Monday 4 January, when primary-age children (from reception to year 6) and those in early years settings will be expected to attend on their school’s advertised first day of term.

Years 7 and up

Pupils in year 11, year 13 and those in year 12 with exams should attend from the week beginning Monday 11 January. They will receive online teaching for the week beginning Monday 4 January. Vulnerable children and the children of critical workers in years 7 to 13 should attend for face-to-face teaching from Monday 4 January.

All other secondary school pupils should attend for face-to-face teaching from Monday 18 January.

All pupils at specialist settings and alternative provision should plan for full-time, on-site attendance from the start of term.
