Residents praised for recycling efforts during Recycle Week

You thanked our waste collection crews during lockdown, with pictures, cards, presents and friendly waves; now we want to thank you for continuing to recycle as much as possible during the pandemic.
Despite all that has happened this year we are lucky to live in an area that is full of fantastic recyclers.
What and how we recycle really matters. Recycling just one item, instead of throwing it in the general rubbish bin, means that it will be dealt with in the most environmentally friendly way and means that materials can be reused for a longer lifespan.
As part of Recycle Week, which runs from 21 to 27 September, we want to help people recycle more by knowing which items can be recycled.
Recycling at home is something everyone can do to help protect the environment and planet.
Here, in Central Bedfordshire, we want to help residents to recycle right.

Councillor Ian Dalgarno, our Executive Member for Community Services, said:
Despite everything that has happened over the last six months our residents are still taking responsibility and choosing to recycle more. We have seen an increase in recycling at our glass bottle banks, as our committed residents have been filling them so often that we have had to increase our emptying schedule to keep up with demand.
It’s clear to me that our residents care a great deal about the environment and recycling. Whilst many people are diligent recyclers, we need to do more to improve this. Recycling is something we can all do, wherever we live and when completed by many people it can really help make a huge change to protect our environment.
We are current distributing garden waste bins to replace the sacks previously available to residents in the north of Central Bedfordshire and we will be rolling out food waste bins to those in the south later this year. We’re making every effort to make it as easy as possible for residents to recycle as much of their waste as possible.
