Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre re-opens gym and studio

Thursday, 23 July 2020

Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre will re-open to the public for gym and studio customers on Saturday 25 July.

We have carried out a £300,000 programme of essential works at the Leighton Buzzard centre while it was closed to the public on Government advice during the pandemic.

Air conditioning has been installed in the gym and café to enable a comfortable temperature to be maintained all year round, the lift has been refurbished and essential fire safety works were also undertaken.

The swimming pools will re-open on Monday 3 August once the new resin floor has been completed in the swimming pool changing area. Unfortunately, this has been delayed due to difficulties sourcing the necessary materials during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This will complete the refurbishment of the swimming pool changing area which now has new showers, new ceilings with new LED lighting and a modern vanity area, enhancing the customer experience and improving energy efficiency.

Swimming customers will be welcome to use any council swimming pool including those at Dunstable or Houghton Regis Leisure Centres while the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre pools are closed. In line with guidance please book swimming sessions and other sessions in advance or by phoning the relevant leisure centre.

Councillor Ian Dalgarno, Executive Member for Community Services, said:

Choosing to do this work during lockdown has allowed us to carry out a major programme of works with minimal disruption to customers. The changes and improvements bring the centre bang up to date and will improve everyone’s experience of the centre. Not being able to open all the facilities simultaneously was a bit of a blow but it’s only an extra week and swimmers will be wowed by the changes.
