It’s time to apply for your child’s school place for September 2020

Thursday, 5 September 2019

School place applications are now open for children who are either due to start their education in September 2020, or transfer to middle, secondary or upper school.

If you are applying for a place to start school or to join a middle school, you have until Wednesday 15 January 2020 to make an application. However, if your child is transferring to a secondary or upper school in 2020 then the deadline for applications is Thursday 31 October 2019.

Last year, we offered first preferences to:

  • 95% of on-time applications to primary or lower school
  • 93% of on-time applications to middle school
  • 96% of on-time applications to secondary school
  • 97% of on-time applications to upper school

Councillor Sue Clark, Executive Member for Families, Education and Children, said:

We know that parents and carers have busy lives and many time pressures, so applying online is the most convenient way of applying for the school of their choice. Last year over 91% of Central Bedfordshire parents and carers applied for a school place online.

Not only is it a quick and simple process, but applications can be reviewed or amended right up to the deadline date.

We have dedicated school admission web pages that contain a wealth of other information including school catchment areas, deferred entries, making an application on religious/faith grounds and how places are allocated.

Parents and carers can also complete a paper application form – these are available from our school admissions team. Call 0300 300 8037, email admissions@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk or write to School Admissions, Central Bedfordshire Council, Watling House, High Street North, Dunstable, LU6 1LF.
