Bedfordshire Minerals and Waste Plan Review – update May 2026

In March 2026, the government published the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026. These introduce a new plan-making system.
Bedford, Central Bedfordshire and Luton councils are currently preparing a new minerals and waste plan timetable that responds to the new regulations and associated guidance.
Each council also needs to agree to commencement of the initial stages. These include a consultation on the scope of the plan and a call for sites. We expect this agreement will be provided by Executive Committee during summer 2026. Once this approval has been made, a timetable will be published and the initial consultation can be conducted.
