Targeted enforcement day delivers results across Central Bedfordshire

Friday, 13 March 2026

Two drivers are under investigation for Blue Badge misuse following a targeted enforcement day by Central Bedfordshire Council.

Central Bedfordshire Council has undertaken a targeted enforcement day, which has placed two drivers under investigation for the misuse of Blue Badge permits, with potential legal action pending.

Blue Badges are essential for people with disabilities, giving them access to parking spaces that help make daily tasks easier. Misusing a badge undermines the system and prevents those who genuinely rely on it from getting the support they need.

On 12 March 2026, Central Bedfordshire Council conducted inspections of Blue Badge permits in a number of council car parks and on roads with double yellow lines in Houghton Regis, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Sandy, Biggleswade, Flitwick and Ampthill.

During the spot checks, officers examined a total of 123 Blue Badges. In two instances, the badge owners were absent, prompting further investigations. In addition, two vehicles were found parked in disabled bays without a valid Blue Badge on display, and penalty charge notices have been issued.

Councillor John Baker, our Executive Member for Finance, said:

Blue Badges are essential for many residents across Central Bedfordshire. Misuse will not be tolerated; we will take decisive action to protect the rights of those who genuinely depend on these schemes. Anyone found abusing the system can expect enforcement action, including fines and, where appropriate, prosecution.

If you suspect someone of illegally using a Blue Badge, you can report it to the Council by calling 0300 300 4154 or emailing benefit.investigations@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.
