We're supporting operation to tackle knife crime
Tuesday, 18 November 2025
We're supporting Sceptre this week (Monday 17 November to Friday 21 November 2025), joining Bedfordshire Police in a national effort to raise awareness of the dangers of carrying a knife.
Throughout the week, we'll carry out a variety of activites designed to deter people from carrying a knife and reassure the public that steps are being taken to keep local areas safe.
This includes weapon sweeps in parks and other public spaces to remove discarded weapons or weapons that have been hidden for future use. Weapons sweeps are a vital part of the week's activity, as they help take hidden weapons off the streets and show that action is being taken to keep the community safe.
We'll also visit local businesses to ensure knives are being sold responsibly, and pop-up engagement sessions where officers will speak with residents.
Councillor Steve Owen, our Executive Member for Community Safety, said:
Keeping people safe is something none of us can do alone. That’s why it’s so important that we work closely with the police to tackle the harm caused by knives. Taking part in high-profile activity like Sceptre helps us send a clear message: carrying a knife is dangerous and is never the answer. We want everyone in Central Bedfordshire to feel safe, and working together is key to achieving that.
