Positive outcome for Swallowfield Primary as classrooms retained
Friday, 3 October 2025
We're pleased to confirm that Swallowfield Primary School will be able to keep its refurbished modular classrooms, following constructive discussions with the Department for Education (DfE).
The decision comes after close joint working between the Council, Members, and, most importantly, the school and its community. By working together and engaging positively with the DfE, a clear case was made for the wider benefits to pupils and families of keeping the classrooms in place.
This outcome means the school is fully compliant with national regulations while retaining facilities that are essential to children. The classrooms support breakfast and after school clubs, SEND provision, small group teaching, and pastoral support. They also ensure continued access to important sports facilities.
Councillor Steve Owen, our Executive Member for Children's Services, said:
This is a fantastic outcome for Swallowfield Primary and for the families it serves. By working together, we have been able to secure facilities that make a real difference to children’s lives, from wraparound care to specialist support. I would like to thank the school, governors, and community for their commitment and partnership.
The school has already invested significantly in maintaining the classrooms, and governors have committed to their ongoing upkeep, ensuring the facilities remain a valuable resource for years to come.
