New store to open in Dunstable town centre – a boost for local retail

Wednesday, 1 October 2025

We are delighted to announce that national retailer Boyes will be opening a new store in Dunstable town centre this autumn, bringing fresh energy and opportunity to the local high street.

The new store will occupy the former Wilko unit at Ashton Square, a prominent two-storey, 43,000 sq ft property that has been vacant since 2023. Boyes has signed a 10-year lease on the site, which is owned by Central Bedfordshire Council.

Boyes is a well-established, family-run business based in Scarborough, operating over 80 value department stores across Yorkshire, the North, and the Midlands. The company is now expanding into the South of England, with Dunstable being one of several new locations following the closure of Wilko stores nationwide.

Councillor Steve Watkins, Executive Member for Assets at Central Bedfordshire Council, said:

I’m really excited to announce officially that Boyes will be coming to Dunstable in the old Wilko's building. It’s an exciting opportunity for Dunstable and I think the town will really enjoy this new outlet.

The arrival of Boyes is expected to boost footfall, support the local economy, and contribute to the ongoing regeneration of Dunstable town centre.
