Dunstable shop closed down after repeated illegal tobacco sales

Thursday, 25 September 2025

A shop in Dunstable with a history of selling illegal tobacco and vapes has been issued with a three-month closure order by our Trading Standards team.

Dunya Mini Market, located at 17 High Street South, Dunstable (LU6 3RZ), has been issued the order following repeated concerns raised by the public and partner organisations, combined with a history of investigations and prosecutions. During investigations, it was discovered that both the shop and the flat above had been adapted to conceal goods.

Luton Magistrate's Court granted the closure order on 24 September 2025. The section 80 closure order makes it a criminal offence to enter the premises during this period. The shop will remain closed until 23 December 2025.

Councillor John Baker, our Executive Member for Public Protection, said:

We are committed to protecting our community from harmful and unlawful practices. Repeated failures by Dunya Mini Market to stop selling illegal tobacco left us with no choice but to secure the closure of these premises.

This enforcement action sends a strong message that businesses breaking the law will be held accountable. We thank the members of the public and partner agencies whose reports and partnership made this possible.
